ASHLAND – Seven sites in Ashland County will take part in Ohio Open Doors Sept. 7–16.
Guests are invited to discover Ohio’s heritage this month as historic buildings and landmarks across the state open their doors for special tours and events during Ohio Open Doors. Some sites are open especially for Ohio Open Doors events or are offering behind-the-scenes looks that aren’t ordinarily available.
All Ohio Open Doors events are free, and most are one-day-only opportunities.
Ashland County events are as follows.
Friday, Sept. 7
- 1-4 p.m., tour the historic 1909 Loudonville Town Hall & Opera House, now known as the Ohio Theatre and Mayor’s Court in City Hall.
Saturday, Sept. 8
- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Pleasant Hill Dam Tour is a behind-the-scenes tour including the intake tower for the Pleasant Hill Dam in Perrysville. The earthen dam is 113 feet tall and was finished in 1936.
- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dal-E-Nal Classics & Museum will be open. Visitors will see fun memorabilia from the 40s and 50s including fully restored Farmall and John Deere tractors, an R-190 International truck, advertising signs, a lighted gas pump, a Pepsi pop machine, a refrigerator, a milker pump, pedal tractors, toy tractors, beer signs and much more.
Saturday, Sept. 15
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participate in a tour of early Ohio lifeat the historic Workman Cabin in Loudonville’s Central Park.
- 2-4 p.m. The Anderson Schoolhouse in Ashland will be open. The property is privately owned by Anderson Schoolhouse, LLC and operated by Dr. Carla Abreu-Ellis and Dr. J.B. Ellis to provide an appreciation of living history to the surrounding community.
Sunday, Sept. 16
- 1-4 p.m. The Vermillion Institute in Hayesville will be hosting an open house. There will be a reception and tours of all five levels, from the chapel to the tower.
- 1-4 p.m. The Hayesville Opera House will be open. This historic landmark remains as one of the few examples of an American theater built in 1886.
