MANSFIELD — Four-hundred voices joined together to present “Sing Out” at the Renaissance Theatre on Sunday afternoon.

The choral celebration featured groups from Ashland High School, Lexington High School, Mansfield Senior High School, Ontario High School, Madison High School, Crestview High School, Mansfield Christian High School, Shelby High School, and the cast from Aladdin Jr.

“This started six years ago,” said Brian Nabors, director of the Mansfield Symphony Chorus and the Shelby High School choir. “Basically, the Mansfield Symphony Chorus wanted to find a way to get schools to participate in a big chorus.”

The concert, Nabors said, helps school choirs hear other school’s choirs.

“I think one of our misnomers, is kids don’t get a chance to hear other kids,” he said. “Here is their chance to do that.”

This is the largest number of students the Sing Out has hosted since its start.

“I look at this as an opportunity for my school to hear other choirs,” Nabors said. “A lot of the schools here are similar, but there are differences: Ontario has a show choir, Mansfield Christian is sacred music — a lot of schools do sacred music, but Mansfield Christian is more contemporary Christian. Other schools are doing folk songs, and Madison is doing a song in honor of veterans.

“Not only do we have a wide array of literature, we have a wide array of choirs.”
