MENTOR — Three Ashland wrestlers advanced to the state meet out of the rugged Mentor district on Saturday.
Top-ranked Josh Bever won a district title at 220 pounds, pinning Elyria’s Andrew Levis in the finals.
Bever’s brother, Jake, took third at 285. The younger Bever pinned North Olmsted’s Tyler Jones in the consolation finals.
Case George earned a spot at the state meet with a fourth-place finish at 120. George dropped a 7-5 decision to Toledo Whitmer’s Jason Cascadden in the consolation finals.
Division III
Crestview’s Dakota Blanton was the only area wrestler to make it out of the Division III Lakota district meet. Blanton placed third at 126 pounds, beating Swanton’s Zach Schaller 12-4 in the consolation finals.
Mapleton had a pair of wrestlers qualify for state out of the Garfield Heights district. Beau Lefever won a district title at 152 pounds with a 1-0 win over Tuslaw’s Brennan Shirley. Jeremy Tracy finished fourth at 145 pounds after falling to Northwestern’s Cael Rowland 3-1 in sudden victory overtime.
