ASHLAND — Ashland University alumni email accounts will be terminated, according to a mass email recently sent out by the university.
According to Ashland Unviersity’s statement, the emails will be eliminated because Ashland University was not in compliance in its agreement with Google.
Google doesn’t allow alumni groups to Google Education Suite email accounts. As a result, it would cost the university nearly $14 million per year to keep and maintain the security of the email addresses.
From now on, students will lose access to their email accounts shortly after graduation.
With an effective date set at April 30, Ashland University graduates, transfer students, previous faculty and former employees will all lose access to their Ashland University email accounts.
These accounts are set to be permanently deleted, not simply disabled. Because of this, there will not be a forwarding option in place to transfer emails to a new account, so action by owners of these accounts must be taken.
Everyone who uses an Ashland University email account is encouraged to notify all contacts and manually switch all information connected to a new account as soon as possible. This includes anything on the account’s Google Drive.
Ashland University is also encouraging avid university email account users to update the university with a different address so they can continue to receive alerts and other emails from the university.
