ASHLAND — Ashland Craft Vinyl and Ashland Combat Club Jiu-Jitsu & Self Defense both opened brand new storefronts in downtown Ashland on Friday, April 12.

Both properties are within a very short walking distance from one another. Ashland Combat Club is located at 106 E. Main Street, while Ashland Craft Vinyl opened their doors at 125 E. 2nd Street.

Bobby Hyatt and Kirsten Kahl, of Ashland Craft Vinyl, were the first to cut the red-ribbon.

The store specializes in adhesive and heat transfer vinyl. Shelves line the interior of the building, showcasing a vast amount of crafting blanks and supplies in a wide variety of shades and hues.

Ashland Craft Vinyl doesn’t sell finished crafts, instead it offers the resources for creative and crafty people to use.

“There wasn’t a good source or good quality product other than online,” Kahl said at the ribbon-cutting. “We decided we would just start selling products that they all use, so that they have a local source.”

The second Ashland business to utilize a ceremonial pair of oversize scissors was Ashland Combat Club Jiu-Jitsu & Self Defense.

Brad Moore proudly opened the doors to a school that focuses on teaching people of all ages how to better their own safety with techniques from the Jiu-Jitsu art form.

Even though this particular combat club is new to Ashland, Moore is familiar to teaching Jiu-Jitsu.

“I taught out in Canton before,” Moore said. “I’ve kind of jumped in head-first, but this is something I’ve thought about and wanted for a long time.”

Both business are now open and ready for the Ashland community.
