ASHLAND — AMR Liquidations has expanded its selling floor by moving into a new 7,000 square-foot location at 715 Sherman Ave. in Ashland. This upgrade is a significant compared to the 900 square-foot building the business previously occupied.

AMR Liquidations specializes in selling various items typically found at a hardware store.

“Our typical inventory is going to be anything you’re going to find in your big box retail and hardware stores; anything from light fixtures to plumbing fixtures,” said Dylan Mullins, co-owner of AMR Liquidations. “We get a lot of tools in that are in really great shape.

“It’s really a good mix and we’re always trying to find something new.”

Typically, when shopping in a hardware store, whatever the price tag reads is the price that the customer has to pay.  However, that is not how Mullins runs his business.

AMR Liquidations is run similarly to a garage sale or a car dealership.  Customers can barter the price of a particular item that they are interested in.

“The more you buy, the better deal you’re going to get,” Mullins said. “There’s a haggle involved to a degree.

“It’s an interesting business! Most people come in and are like ‘Man, this is fun!”

In fact, each item is equipped with a price tag that represents what the retailer was selling it for. AMR Liquidations typically sells it for around 50 percent off of the retailer’s price.

The items that Mullins displays on selling floor generally derive from customer returns, overflow items, shelf pulls and items that are slightly damaged or came in a damaged box. A decent chunk of the inventory also stems from custom orders from other hardware corporations that customer’s eventually decided against. These items are then sent to AMR Liquidations to sell.

A team of employees take the time to ensure that every item they receive is mechanically functional and is supposed to work just as it should.

“We’ve got a pile of stuff that we donate to ‘Habitat for Humanity’ that we deem unsellable to our customers for whatever reason,” Mullins said. “We just try to give back as much as we can.

“If we can help out the community and provide people with a good deal, that’s top notch.”

AMR Liquidations gets a fresh truck of stock practically every week. New items are constantly being displayed on the floor.

“We turn over inventory constantly,” Mullins said. “I don’t want stuff to hang out.

“You won’t see the same items in here two weeks from now. At the end of the day, we’re here to help people save a couple buck.”
