ASHLAND — The Ashland Bike Company officially opened a brand new mountain bike trail at Brookside Park on Saturday, July 20. The grand opening also co-aligned with International Mountain Bike Day.
The Brookside Mountain Bike Trail has been in development since October of 2018. The project was completed by Ashland Bike Company owner Anthony Bunt and employee/ cyclist Troy Chipka, alongside several members from the Ashland Community.
“One of the things about mountain bike trails is that they are never really done,” Bunt said. “You just get it to a point to where you can ride it.
“Then you can go back and tweak it if needed.”
The trail itself spans roughly 3.5 miles through the natural terrain in the woods encompassing Brookside Park. It is designed specifically for off-road capable bicycles and class 1 electric mountain bikes.
“There is no doubt that cycling is on an uptake not just across the country, but right here in our backyard,” said Mayor Matt Miller. “The men and women of Ashland are getting involved and cleaning up our great city and adding these kinds of amenities that will only serve the children and generations of Ashland for years to come!
“If you’re living in Ashland, things keep getting better just about every day!”
The trail saw over a dozen community members ban together over the past nine months to create and clean the path.
“We want to give this trail to Ashland,” Bunt said. “We’ll help take care of it, but this is your trail.”
