Ashland Idol kicksoff this Friday at the Ashland Moose Lodge.

ASHLAND — Another season of Ashland Idol is underway starting this Friday, January 31 at the Moose Lodge.

Adult contestants have the chance to compete four nights a week at four separate locations throughout the next six weeks in the qualifier rounds, which are followed by the semi-finals in the seventh week.

The contest concludes in week eight with a champion, who will be crowned and walks away with a $700 cash prize, a trophy, the opportunity to sing the National Anthem during a BCM Promotions Event and a promotional prize package.

“What Ashland Idol 2020 is doing is we are giving the opportunity to local talent to express themselves,” said Rob Rock, event coordinator and operator of Ashland Idol 2020. “There’s a lot of chances, and a lot of opportunity.  It’s very similar to an American Idol-style competition.”

A plethora local businesses will host a qualifier over the next six weeks with opportunities on four separate days: Mondays at Bullshooter beginning at 9 p.m.; Wednesdays at Buffalo Wild Wings beginning at 8:45 p.m.; Thursdays at Caddy Shack Indoor Golf & Fun beginning at 7 p.m.; and every other Friday at the Ashland Moose Lodge beginning at 8:15 p.m.

Contestants must be 18 years or older to participate in this competition, however, a youth contest of Ashland Idol will be held after a three-week hiatus from the conclusion of the adult-version.

“When the youth contest is over, then we’ll take another two or three-week break and we’re going to be holding a contest that is strictly for duets and small groups,” said Rock.  “I’ve really gotten a lot of questions about that, so I said that there was no reason why we can’t do it.”

Ashland Idol was previously known by the alias ‘So You Think You Can Sing’ until a name-change occurred a couple years ago.
