ASHLAND — The Ashland County Park District’s Gilliom-Cherp Nature Park is connected to another western Ashland County park.

The 176-acre park, located at 1768 State Route 603, is adjoined to Black Fork Bottoms Park via an easement across private land.

The Gilliom-Cherp Nature Park is the ideal scene for public hunting and fishing, but the property also allows for hiking and has access to the Black Fork for canoeing and kayaking.

“There’s lots of trails, longer and shorter trails,” said ACPD director Stephanie Featheringill.

There’s plentiful wildlife, waterfowl and wildflowers to see at the park, she continued. The park primarily consists of marsh and wetlands with pine forests.

The park was donated by the Gilliom family, which then further supported the park via improvements like a bridge. The local branch of Pheasants Forever and the Division of Wildlife of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources also have provided funding for the park.
