ASHLAND — The Ashland County Health Department (ACHD) is reporting its 15th, 16th and 17th cases of COVID-19 in Ashland County residents, according to a press release issued Monday by Ashland County Health Department’s public information officer Jill Hartson.
Over the weekend, the ACHD received confirmation of the 15th and 16th positive laboratory test results for COVID-19 in Ashland residents, and a 17th case was confirmed on Monday, May 11.
“The increase in COVID-19 cases serves as an important reminder that the risk is still there,” said Shirley Bixby, Director of Nursing at the ACHD. “As Ashland reopens with the rest of the state, there will be more contacts which will increase the risk. It would be dangerous for us to ignore these risks, so please practice precautions to keep all of us safe.”
Those precautions include: practicing social distancing, wearing a face covering, staying home when sick, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and washing hands often.
Of the 17 positive cases, 14 individuals have recovered and 3 individuals are in various stages of recovery.
To minimize the risk of infecting healthcare workers, individuals should call ahead before seeking medical care to discuss symptoms.
According to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), COVID-19 symptoms can include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, diarrhea, vomiting, conjunctivitis, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and new loss of taste or smell.
The gradual reopening of Ohio began on Friday, May 1 with hospital, medical, dental and veterinary services that didn’t require an overnight hospital stay. Tomorrow, consumer, retail and service businesses are slated to reopen. Salons, barbershops, outside restaurants and patios can reopen on May 15, with restaurant dine-in locations opening on May 21. Mass gatherings are still limited to less than 10 people.
