ASHLAND — This year’s July 4th Rotary Fireworks display won’t only be higher in the sky but will also feature its own soundtrack.

WRDL-FM 88.9 and 101.3 WNCO-FM will be broadcasting music synchronized to the Ashland community fireworks display on Saturday, July 4.

Mitch Piskur, president of the Rotary Club of Ashland, said the Ashland community’s generous outpouring of financial support will allow the fireworks display will be bigger and shot higher to expand the viewing area given the need for spectators to spread out and socially distance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The response has been overwhelming,” Piskur said. “Shooting all the fireworks higher will allow more Ashland residents to view the show from their backyards and cars given the social distance precautions.  Thanks to our radio station partners, the music broadcast will add to this festive celebration.”

The safety concerns surrounding the pandemic caused the Rotary Club’s cancellation of the pre-fireworks program and entertainment in Community Stadium.

Ashland University’s WRDL-FM will also broadcast and stream live on the internet a pre-fireworks show beginning at 9:15 p.m. featuring Ashland Mayor Matt Miller and Rotary Club members honoring military veterans and those essential workers impacted by the COViD-19 pandemic.

The program will also include the drawing of the winning ticket in the Rotary Club’s 50-50 Super Raffle that is helping fund the fireworks. The program will also be live on the Rotary Club’s Facebook page and broadcast over the Community Stadium sound system.

“Given the significance of the July 4th celebration, we wanted to honor all our military veterans for their service,” Piskur said. “With the uncertainty caused by the pandemic the past three or four months, we felt it was appropriate to recognize the contributions of all our local essential workers and first responders who have kept us safe during uncertain times of the pandemic, So this community celebration is dedicated to these two groups.”

Tickets for the 50-50 Super Raffle are still available for $100 each with maximum of 150 sold. They can be purchased from Rotary Club members, on the web at ashlandrotary.net, at Armstrong Cable, 1215 Claremont Ave., or by emailing mpiskur@agoc.com
