Ashland building codes

ASHLAND — The City of Ashland building department has partnered with Ashland County commissioners to offer its building plan approval and plan inspection services throughout Ashland County, effective Aug. 1.

“Now that we have nearly a year of experience under our belt working with projects within the city limits only, we are confident that we can extend this much-needed service to other areas all across Ashland County without sacrificing the quality of our service,” said Mayor Matt Miller.

In September of 2019, the City of Ashland Building Department was certified by the Ohio Board of Building Standards to administer the Ohio Building Code, including plumbing provisions within the City of Ashland.

In years prior, the City of Ashland had contracted with Richland County to administers commercial building codes.

The code sets minimum standards for non-residential construction within the State of Ohio.

“We have received so much positive feedback from area contractors and business owners regarding our decision to bring the administration of the non-residential building code in-house here at City Hall,” Miller said.

“Being able to expedite these plan reviews and inspections will continue to help us with our economic development efforts all across Ashland County,” the mayor said.

The City of Ashland Building Department will now administer the code in all unincorporated areas within Ashland County, with the exemption of the Village of Mifflin.
