COLUMBUS — Mandy Ruminski is in the hunt.
Lexington’s senior ace shot 4-over 74 during the first round of the Division I state tournament on a warm and breezy Friday at Ohio State’s Gray Course.
Ruminski is tied for seventh with Cincinnati Ursuline Academy’s Eleanor Hudepohl, just three strokes behind co-leaders Emerson Purcell and Madison Spiess of New Albany, who shot matching 71s.
New Albany fired a 293 as a team, 17 shots ahead of second-place Green (310) at the midway point of the two-day, 36-hole event. Ashland carded a 341 and is in 10th.
In boys action, Ashland shot a 324 and is tied for eighth with Lakota East. St. Ignatius leads after the opening round with a 302, followed by Akron Hoban (304). Dublin Jerome and Cincinnati St. Xavier (306) are tied for third.
The Ashland girls were led by Kira Moore, who shot a 78 and is tied for 22nd. Klaira Paramore carded an 82, while Sarah Anderson opened with an 84. Emma Packard shot a 97 and Livia Sponsler had a 103.
Tyler Sabo was tied for 10th after shooting a 75 on Friday, five strokes behind first-round leader Nick Piesen of Cleveland St. Ignatius.
Ashland’s Aiden Baker shot a 78, while Kamden Mowry had an 81. Aidan Chandler had a 90 and Ryan Frazee had a 96.
