MOUNT VERNON — The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Christmas Eve update that a white Christmas is in the forecast, which could lead to hazardous travel.
Here’s what to expect:
– Rain will quickly transition to snow from west to east today. A brief wintry mix with freezing rain and sleet is possible as this transition occurs mainly east of I-71.
– Widespread moderate to heavy snow is expected tonight in the Warning and Advisory areas.
– Snow will become confined to the snowbelt by Friday morning and will continue through Saturday morning.
– Significant snowfall is expected in the eastern half of the forecast area, with the highest totals in the snowbelt region of NE Ohio and NW PA.
– Christmas Eve and Christmas Day travel will be impacted.
– Westerly winds will gust to 30 mph, which will produce blowing snow, especially near Lake Erie.
– Flash freeze will be possible as temperatures rapidly drop on Thursday and Thursday night.
– Single-digit wind chills expected Thursday night through Saturday.
