Lexington coach Brock Spurling was chosen the Ohio Cardinal Conference boys coach of the year on Saturday.

WOOSTER — Ashland junior Rylan McDaniel was chosen the male swimmer of the year by the Ohio Cardinal Conference coachees on Saturday during the league meet.

McDaniel won the 100-yard breaststroke, was second in the 200 individual medley, and swam a leg on the runner-up 200-yard medley relay team, as well as the third-place 400-yard freestyle relay. 

The Lexington boys and Wooster girls claimed the team titles. The Minutemen earned the combined crown in the six-team event with 969 total points. The Generals were runners-up in the combined scores with 943. Ashland finished third at 713, with Mansfield Senior fourth (348), Mount Vernon fifth (344) and Madison sixth (289).

Lexington was first in the boys championships with 506 points to outdistance second-place Wooster at 443. Ashland was third with 366 points, followed by Mansfield Senior (209), Madison (170) and Mount Vernon (110). Wooster earned 500 points to top the girls, ahead of 463 for Lexington. Ashland was third at 347, with Mount Vernon fourth at 234, with Mansfield Senior fifth (139) and Madison sixth (119).

Female Swimmer of the Year: Gracie Chelf, Jr., Wooster.

Male Swimmer of the Year: Rylan McDaniel, Jr., Ashland.

Girls Coach of the Year: Chris Matthew, Wooster.

Boys Coach of the Year Brock: Spurling Lexington.
