ASHLAND — Ashland’s school district will have a new treasurer going into the new school year.
Kyle Klingler, 34, of Ashland is set to begin as the district’s assistant treasurer on June 14. On Aug. 1, he will assume the role as treasurer. That date is when Sheryl Shaw Stewart, the current treasurer, is set to retire.
Stewart has acted as the district’s interim treasurer since Jan. 1, 2021.
The school board hired Klingler unanimously during its Monday night meeting. His salary will be $80,000, with a $5,000 stipend for living within the school district. His contract expires in three years.
“We’re really excited to have you here,” said Zack Truax, the board’s president. “And we’re excited to hire someone who is already a member of our community.”
Truax said Klingler is “supremely qualified,” but the fact his family lives in the community is “icing on the cake.”
Klingler comes from an 11-year stint with the Auditor of State’s office. For the last seven years, he has worked as an audit manager focusing on Ashland, Wayne and Holmes counties.
He has lived with his wife, Elizabeth, and three daughters in the city of Ashland for seven years, he said.
Klingler said the school district has been on “very good financial ground” for many years.
“I want to keep up the tradition to stay fiscally responsible,” he said.
One of his goals right away is to implement new accounting software for the district, something he hopes to have done in the next year.
