ASHLAND — Residents in Ashland County have an opportunity to get rid of hazardous junk this Saturday.

The county commissioner’s office struck a deal with Cincinnati-based Environmental Enterprises recently to host the event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 17 at the fairgrounds, 2042 Claremont Ave.

The deal means the event is free to Ashland County residents.

Ashland County Commissioners will cover the disposal of up to $20,000 worth of hazardous material such as glues, fuel, paint, light bulbs, pesticides, lubricants, rechargeable batteries and more.

Items not accepted include tires, farm and medical waste, appliances, ammunition, explosives and others. See the flier below for a full list of what is and what isn’t acceptable:

Nikki Hiller, deputy clerk for the county commissioners, emphasized that Environmental Enterprises will not accept tires.

“We’ve gotten a ton of calls about this. Tires are not accepted,” she said.

The event will be held rain or shine. Items for disposal will only be accepted from Ashland County residents. Hiller said proof of residency will include vehicles’ license plates, a driver’s license or a utility bill.
