ASHLAND — The Ashland County Board of Elections validated dozens of candidates and issues during its regular meeting Monday.
Two candidates withdrew their petitions after learning some signatures could not be validated, meaning they came up short of the threshold required by state law.
Michael Zickefoose, a candidate for Ashland City School District board member, and Mindy Scurlock, a candidate for Mapleton Local School District board member, withdrew their petitions.
They both plan to run as write-in candidates. The deadline to file the proper paperwork is Aug. 23. There is a $30 fee.
Anyone is permitted to run as a write-in candidate. A petition is not required.
K. Fred Gingrich II’s petition was invalidated by the board of elections, because signatures could not be validated. Gingrich, a candidate for Ashland City School District board member, was not present during the board’s meeting to object the motion.
A petition to recall the Mifflin Village Mayor was also invalidated by the board.
Ashland County Board of Elections Director Shannon Johnson referred to a letter she received from Chris Tunnell, the county prosecutor. She said it stated the village, an unchartered entity, does not provide a means to recall an elected official.
Below is a list of what will appear on ballots in Ashland County on Nov.2:
