Ashland doesn’t mess around with Mt. Vernon
Ashland fought back from a slow start and rolled to a 35-17 win over Mt. Vernon in an Ohio high school football matchup.
Ashland moved to a 28-15 bulge over Mt. Vernon as the fourth quarter began.
Ashland registered a 22-15 advantage at halftime over Mt. Vernon.
The Yellow Jackets started on steady ground by forging a 15-7 lead over the Arrows at the end of the first quarter.
Crestview blanks Monroeville
Crestview threw a defensive blanket on Monroeville Friday night, rolling to a 34-0 shutout victory in Firelands Conference action.
The sixth-ranked Cougars opened a 13-0 first-quarter lead, and owned a 27-0 halftime bulge.
Crestview triggered a running clock in the third period with another score.
The Cougars are 5-0 overall, 2-0 in the Firelands Conference.
The Eagles dropped to 2-3, 1-1.
Norwayne takes down Hillsdale
Norwayne’s river of points eventually washed away Hillsdale in a 42-7 offensive cavalcade in an Ohio high school football matchup. .
Norwayne’s defense locked up the victory with a shutout performance in the final quarter.
Norwayne’s authority showed as it carried a 42-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats’ offense jumped to a 21-7 lead over the Falcons at halftime.
The Bobcats opened with a 7-0 advantage over the Falcons through the first quarter.
South Central blows out Dayton Christian
South Central showed little rust after a hiatus due to COVID restrictions. The Trojans thumped Dayton Christian 47-7.
Neither team scored in the first period, but South Central forged a 15-7 halftime advantage.
The Trojans put it away with a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to grab a 27-7 margin heading to the final 12 minutes — which they dominated.
South Central is 2-2 overall and will host Monroeville next week.
Ontario humbles Lakewood in non-conference affair
The Warriors took a road trip to Licking County and put a 49-19 spanking on Lakewood in a non-conference game at Hebron.
Ontario improves to 2-3 heading into next week’s home game with River Valley.
The Lancers fell to 0-5.
Tiffin Columbian deals Tygers 2nd straight loss
A trip to Tiffin turned into a nightmare on Friday night for Mansfield Senior, which lost its second straight game while falling 40-27.
Senior High started strong, opening a 17-13 first-quarter edge, but the Tornadoes dominated the second period for a 27-17 halftime advantage.
The Tygers tied the game at 27 apiece heading to the final 12 minutes, but Tiffin controlled the fourth quarter with a pair of TDs and a shutout defensive performance.
Mansfield Senior had a pair of pick-6s, with Myles Bradley taking one back 83 yards, and Ja’Ontay O’Bryant going 34 yards to tie the game with with 3:56 showing in the third period.
Senior High falls to 3-2 heading into next week’s game at Lexington.
West Holmes rolls over Madison
West Holmes enjoyed a big first half, and then coasted to a victory ride after a 40-7 verdict at Madison on Friday night in an Ohio Cardinal Conference clash.
West Holmes sophomore running back Sam Williams-Dixon got loose on a 48-yard TD dash early for a 7-0 Knights’ lead. But Madison responded immediately after passes of 32 and 31 yards to senior Issac Brooks set up a 1-yard TD plunge by Hunter Hutcheson. That tied the game at 7-7.
But it was all Knights after that. West Holmes owned a 14-7 first-quarter lead, and expanded it to 33-7 at halftime.
Neither team scored in the third period, but West Holmes tacked on a final score with less than four minutes to play while triggering a running clock.
The Rams were off the previous two weeks with COVID restrictions, and fall to 0-3 heading into next week’s game at Ashland.
Williams-Dixon was hit hard in the third quarter of this game and fumbled. He was stretched out on the field for several minutes holding his head before leaving the game. He did not return.
Abracadabra: Upper Scioto Valley vanquishes Crestline
A combination of points and defense led to a knockout performance as Upper Scioto Valley turned out the lights on Crestline 42-8 in an Ohio high school football matchup on September 17.
The Rams enjoyed a monstrous margin over the Bulldogs with a 42-0 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
Upper Scioto Valley fought to a 34-0 intermission margin at Crestline’s expense.
Defense ruled the first quarter as the Rams and the Bulldogs were both scoreless.
Clear Fork tenderizes River Valley
Clear Fork’s river of points eventually washed away River Valley in a 41-13 offensive cavalcade for an Ohio high school football victory on September 17.
The Colts took control in the third quarter with a 34-6 advantage over the Vikings.
Clear Fork opened a close 21-6 gap over River Valley at the intermission.
Clear Fork moved in front of River Valley 14-0 to begin the second quarter.
Too much punch: Bishop Hartley knocks out Norwalk
Bishop Hartley collected a 34-21 victory over Norwalk in an Ohio high school football matchup on September 17.
The Hawks stomped on over the Truckers 34-0 heading to the fourth quarter.
The Hawks registered a 27-0 advantage at halftime over the Truckers.
Bishop Hartley opened with a 14-0 advantage over Norwalk through the first quarter.
