ASHLAND — Ashland Public Transit was recently presented with the Division III SOAR Award from the Ohio Transit Risk Pool, an honor that recognizes APT’s achievement of having the lowest cost of risk among pool members within a certain mileage category.
“Our city transit staff members work hard to provide our riders with the best possible transportation experience and that means safety is always a top priority,” said Mayor Matt Miller. “Not only is it important that we keep our riders safe, but we want to keep our drivers safe as they help riders both board and depart our vehicles.”
Since its inception in 1987, APT has consistently increased both its efficiency and ride capacity, with much potential to expand in the future.
“I am very proud of the hard work and dedication put in by my incredible staff. This award is a great affirmation of all they do to safely serve our community,” said Liz McClurg, Transit Coordinator.
Ashland Public Transit’s team is currently comprised of 13 employees, including one coordinator, three dispatchers, and nine drivers.
The Ohio Transit Risk Pool is a risk sharing/self-insurance pool made up of 15 public transit agencies in the State of Ohio. Collectively, OTRP members operate approximately 47 million miles annually, utilizing nearly 1,900 vehicles and employing roughly 3,000 people.
“APT should be proud of this award as it is a tangible result of their efforts to provide a safe and efficient transit system to the citizens of their community,” noted Ken Reed, OTRP’s Director of Risk Management.
