MANSFIELD — For several area teams, Week 10 will determine if there is a Week 11.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its penultimate computer ratings Tuesday and just about every team in north central Ohio is still in play for a postseason berth.
The OHSAA will send out its final ratings Sunday, along with playoff invitations to 448 schools around the state. The top 16 teams in each of the 28 regions (four per enrollment division) will qualify.
Seven area schools are virtually guaranteed of making the expanded-format playoffs. Another six are still strong contenders — as long as they win Friday.
In Division III, Region 10, Mansfield Senior (7-2) is a virtual lock to not only make the playoffs, but host at least an opening-round game. The Tygers are third with 19.25 points and host winless Madison on Friday.
The playoff picture is a little more murky for fellow Region 10 teams Ashland and Lexington. The Arrows (3-6) and Minutemen (3-6) are 17th and 18th, respectively. Ashland hosts Division II Wooster (4-5) while Lex hosts Division III River Valley (5-4). Wins on Friday would likely vault both teams into the top 16.
In Division IV, Region 14, both Shelby (7-2) and Clear Fork (6-3) are virtual locks regardless of what happens Friday, when the Whippets host the Colts. Shelby is ninth in the regional ratings with 15.7438 points, while Clear Fork is 10th with 13.0253 points.
Galion (4-5) is still alive in Region 14 as well. The Tigers are 14th with 8.1667 points and visit Marion Pleasant (1-8) on Friday.
In Division V, Region 18, Wynford (4-5) is 14th with 5.0522 points. The Royals are at Mohawk (4-5) on Friday.
In Division VI, Region 22, undefeated Crestview (9-0) is second with 19.547 points after last week’s win over previously undefeated Norwalk St. Paul. The Cougars can wrap up the first perfect regular season since 2011 with a win at Mapleton (3-5) on Friday.
Also in Region 22, Colonel Crawford (8-1) is ninth with 10.8788 points. The Eagles host Seneca East (6-3) on Friday.
In Region 21 of Division VI, Hillsdale (5-4) is a virtual lock after last week’s 31-20 win over Waynedale. The Falcons are 13th with 7.6458 points and visit Northwestern (3-6) on Friday.
In Division VII, Region 25, Lucas (7-1) is second with 15.9653 points. The Cubs visit Mogadore (7-2) on Friday.
Also in Region 25, both Plymouth (4-4) and Mapleton (3-5) are in control of their playoff destinies. The Big Red are 11th with 7.2748 points, while the Mounties are 14th with 5.1985 points. Plymouth hosts South Central on Friday, while the Mounties host undefeated Crestview.
