ASHLAND — It’s the spookiest time of the year — and there are still many chances for you and yours to dress up and search for candy.

Here’s a chronological rundown of everything happening in Ashland County for Halloween.

Oct. 26

Ashland Main Street is sponsoring its Costume Capers event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Downtown Ashland will close during that time to allow businesses and friends to hand out candy and check out all the costumes.

The event will also feature a costume and coloring contest.

Trick-or-Treat will happen in Ashland, Jeromesville and Hayesville on this day. In Ashland, the city-wide event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.

In Jeromesville and Hayesville, kids will have an hour (6 to 7 p.m.) for the annual search for candy.

Trick or treat happens on the Thursday before Halloween to not conflict with high school football and other weekend activities, the city said in an announcement on its website.

“The 5 to 7 p.m. time frame is to protect our children — even with reflective costumes and flashlights, the potential for harm to a child is too high to risk having the event later in the evening when it is dark. This event is for the children and we want it to be a safe, fun event for them,” the city said.

The announcement encouraged residents to turn on the outside porch light if participating in the festivities.

Oct. 29

Dressing up isn’t just for kids.

Ashland Main Street will sponsor its first-ever Costume Crawl from 6 to 10 p.m.

Bars and restaurants in downtown Ashland will offer Halloween-themed drinks, there will be a costume contest and a photo booth.

Oct. 30

Wrap up the week by heading out to Perrysville and Loudonville for costume contests, parades and more trick-or-treating.

In Perrysville, the festivities begin at 3:30 p.m., for an evening of dressing up, trick-or-treat and hayrides that concludes at 8 p.m.

Loudonville will hold a Halloween-themed parade and host a Trick-or-Treat event from 4 to 7 p.m.
