ASHLAND —

The $99,340 change order represents the project’s sixth since its start last summer.

Commissioner Denny Bittle said the change order still puts the $1.4 million project within budget. The original estimate for the project was $1.6 million, according to bid documents.

The change order will allow BCU Electric, the general contractor, to add a three-zone, two-way paging system.

Dennis Harris, the county’s maintenance superintendent and risk manager, said the addition will not affect the project’s timeline, which he said in late January should be wrapped up by the end of February.

“I talked to the engineer yesterday and he says all the parts are in stock, so we should have them here within two weeks,” he said. “So we shouldn’t have too much of a delay.”

Harris said the system will allow jail staff to make announcements to three areas of the jail or to isolate to specific areas. The system also allows for recording.

Harris said in late January there were still around 100 intercoms and software programming to install. Delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic have caused shipping delays for parts, he said.
