ASHLAND — Ashland County Sheriff E. Wayne Risner issued a Level 3 snow emergency for Ashland County on Thursday evening. 

The designation is the highest classification and it means all roads in the county are closed to non-emergency personnel.

According the classification, “No one should be driving during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.”

The county had been at a Level 2 most of the day Thursday.

The Ashland County courthouse, county office building, dog shelter, service center and the Department of Job and Family Services announced office closures for Friday.

Several area schools also canceled class for Friday ahead of time. See a list of closures here.

A winter storm warning is in effect until Friday at 7 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

NWS has called for four to seven inches of snow accumulation.

Temperatures will reach down into the teens with wind chills as low as zero to five degrees. 

Wind gusts are expected to reach as high as 35 mph, NWS meteorologists said.
