MADISON TOWNSHIP — Faith Kuhn’s dominance didn’t go unnoticed by the coaches around the region.
Madison’s 6-foot-1 senior center was selected the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association District 6 Co-Player of the Year in Division I when the teams were introduced Tuesday.
Kuhn, who will play college volleyball at Shawnee State, averages 17.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists a game. She shared the Player of the Year award with Fremont Ross sophomore Destiny Robinson.
Ashland freshman Makaree Chapman was also selected to the Division I first team. Chapman averaged 10.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists a game.
Fremont Ross coach Juan Vela was the Coach of the Year in Division I.
Madison’s Alexia Davis was selected to the second team, along with Ashland’s Klaira Paramore and Lilly Pool. Madison’s Natalee Back was an honorable-mention selection.
Division II
Likely Associated Press poll champ Shelby swept the awards in Division II as senior guard Sophie Niese was selected Player of the Year and Natalie Lantz was tabbed Coach of the Year.
The Ashland University-bound Niese averaged 9.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists a game as the Whippets (22-0) won their fourth straight Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference title.
Shelby’s Haylee and Olivia Baker were both selected to the first team, along with Clear Fork’s Bekah Conrad.
Haylee Baker averaged 12.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists a game, while Olivia Baker was good for 15.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists a night. Conrad, Clear Fork’s 6-foot-4 center, averaged 17.3 points and a MOAC-best 11.5 rebounds a game.
Mansfield Senior’s Kiersten Bradley was a second-team pick, along with Shelby’s Audi Albert, Clear Fork’s Lilly Wortman and Galion’s Natalee Perkins.
Honorable-mention selections included Mansfield Senior’s Kiyah Wentz and Monetta Hilory, Lexington’s Madi Basilone and Lexi Blasberg and Ontario’s Rylee Nigh.
Division III
Firelands Conference champ Crestview landed two players on the District 6 first team in Division III.
Senior Mary Leeper and junior Emma Aumend were recognized after leading the Cougars (17-4) to their third straight Firelands Conference crown. Leeper averaged 9.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists a game, while Aumend averaged 10.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game.
Colonel Crawford’s Kaylyn Risner and Wynford’s Averi McMillan also earned spots on the first team. Risner averaged 16.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game, while McMillan was good for 12.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists a game.
Crestview’s Anna McFarland was an honorable-mention selection, along with Bucyrus’ Madalyn Kimmel and Emma Tyrrell and Wynford’s Grace Stucky and Katie Wagner.
Margaretta’s Kylie Leibacher was the Player of the Year in Division III, while Huron’s Darius Schaeffer was the Coach of the Year.
Division IV
Buckeye Central’s Emily Siesel was selected the District 6 Player of the Year in Division IV while Buckettes’ coach Abram Kaple was the Coach of the Year.
A senior, Siesel averaged 19.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists a game for Buckeye Central (21-1). She was joined on the first team by teammate Claudia Pifher, who averaged 22.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists a game.
Lucas’ Shelby Grover and Mansfield Christian’s Alexis Rippel joined Siesel and Pifher on the first team. Grover averaged 20 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists a game. Rippel was good for 13.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists a game.
Mansfield Christian’s Anna Sparks was a second team pick, while teammate Aubrynn Maiyer was an honorable-mention selection. Other honorable-mention picks include Plymouth’s Jaylin Branham and Erin Stevens and Buckeye Central’s Julia Evak.
