ASHLAND — For the second year in a row, Luke Denbow took home the Ohio Cardinal Conference’s top award.

The Ashland senior had some company this year.

Denbow was selected the OCC Player of the Year and Ashland’s Jason Hess was selected the Coach of the Year when the all-conference teams were announced Wednesday morning.

A West Liberty (West Virginia) University recruit, Denbow averaged an area-best 28.3 points a game in leading the Arrows to the outright OCC title. The championship was Ashland’s first since 2015.

Lexington, West Holmes and Wooster all finished a game back at 7-5.

Denbow is Ashland’s career scoring and assists leader. He averaged 6.9 rebounds and 5.8 assists a game for the Arrows (13-9).

Mansfield Senior’s Maurice Ware, Ashland’s Grayson Steury, Lexington’s Baden Forum and Madison’s Jayden Jeffries were all first-team picks. They were joined by Wooster’s Drew Dossi and Micah McKee and West Holmes’ Channer Wells.

Madison’s Levi Zehner was a second-team pick, along with Lexington’s Hudson Moore and Caden Eichler, Ashland’s Luke Jurjevic. Mount Vernon’s Nolan Belcher and Beau Bridges were second-team selections, along with West Holmes’ Blake Morrison.

Honorable-mention selections included Ashland’s Keslar Bates, Lexington’s Tyler Jackson and Jack Depperschmidt, Madison’s Isaac Brooks and Ethan Spillman, Mansfield Senior’s Nathan Haney and Myles Bradley, Mount Vernon’s Caden Rowland and Trevor Buttke, West Holmes’ Mason Wolfe and Brock Zimmerly and Wooster’s Blake Bowen and Jack Williams.
