ASHLAND — Hosted by Laurence Fishburne, Season 3 Episode 3, “The Dyatlov Pass Incident,” premiered Monday night and examined the leading theories behind a cold case that some have called, “Russia’s Area 51.”

As a mountaineer with a journalism background, becoming obsessed with the greatest outdoor cold case of all time came naturally. Nine hikers’ bodies were found at the base of “Dead Mountain” in Siberia in 1959, all with different, mysterious and horrific wounds. Each theory, from a Yeti attack to secret government testing, has led to even more speculation and conspiracy claims as to what truly happened to the climbers.

Adam Fox at Mt. Hood

In June of 2021, I wrote about what I thought transpired, from a climbing and mountaineering perspective.

Producers working on Season Three, found my story and contacted me about being on the show. In the fall of 2021, they flew me to Los Angeles to talk about my avalanche theory and my research into the possible involvement of the local tribe of Mansi people.

Although I felt I underperformed during my segments, they still aired a few that were related to the avalanche and Mansi of Siberia (around the 14- and 30-minute marks).

Episode Three is available to stream or to watch through your History Channel provider.

For those that want more Dyatlov, Fox will be speaking about the cold case at the Cleo Redd Fisher Museum in Loudonville March 21 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
