LOUDONVILLE — Loudonville’s Corri Vermilya spearheaded the Ashland County list of girls who were honored on the Division III and IV All-Ohio basketball team, released on Monday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriter’s Association.

The 5-9 sophomore averaged 26.6 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 5.6 steals and 1.2 blocks a game. She has 1,080 career points in two seasons.

Others in north central Ohio to earn accolades included the player of the year in Division IV.

Emily Siesel

She was the engine that powered Buckeye Central all the way to the Division IV state tournament and Emily Siesel was rewarded for her efforts in a big way.

A senior, Siesel was selected Ohio’s Division IV Player of the Year when the All-Ohio Division III and Division IV teams were announced Monday.

The 5-foot-6 point guard was among the most productive players in all of north central Ohio. She averaged 17.7 points a game while leading the Northern 10 Athletic Conference in assists (5.3) and steals (6.4).

Moreover, she helped the Buckettes reach the Final Four for the seventh time in program history. Buckeye Central fell to eventual state champion Waterford 53-39 in the semifinals.

Siesel was joined on the Division IV All-Ohio first team by Loudonville sophomore Corri Vermilya. 

Buckeye Central’s Claudia Pifher was a second-team pick in Division IV. The senior became Buckeye Central’s career scoring leader despite missing the first 11 games of the season with a broken wrist. The Ohio Dominican recruit averaged 19.5 points a game while connecting on 49 percent of her 3-point field goal attempts.

Loudonville’s Shalen Guilliams and Lucas’ Shelby Grover were special-mention selections in Division IV.

Guilliams averaged 16.7 points a game and scored 1,206 career points while connecting on 265 career 3-pointers. Grover averaged 20 points a game for the Cubs.

Danville’s Brooklyn Hess and Lexi Wenger, of Northmor, were part of the special-mention honorees, too. Wenger, a 5-8 seniorr, averaged 15.7 points, while Hess, a 5-11 senior, checked in at 12.9 ppg.

Laura Keith, of East Knox, headed up the honorable-mention players. The 5-9 senior accounted for 15.2 points.

In Division III, Colonel Crawford’s Kaylyn Risner and Wynford’s Averi McMillan were special-mention picks. Risner averaged 16.5 points a game, while McMillan was good for 12.3 points and 9.7 rebounds a game.

Waynedale’s Rick Geiser was the Division III Coach of the Year. Geiser was the head boys coach at Crestview from 1999 to 2006.

Cardington senior Beth Hardwick was a second-team selection. The 5-10 standout averaged 15.0 ppg.

Gabby Daniels, of Fredericktown, earned honorable-mention status. The 5-8 senior averaged 13.4 ppg. She was joined on that listing by Kambry Edwards. The 5-4 Cardington senior averaged 10.0 points.

Mapleton’s Sara Hickey was part of that group, too. The Mapleton senior averaged 12.0 ppg.
