ASHLAND — The Ashland High School Music Department just returned after six days of spending the 2022 spring break on a trip to Orlando, Florida.
The excursion showcased the hard work and talents of the school’s musical groups.
The students enjoyed the sights, sounds and adventure of Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Disney Springs. In addition to its time at the parks, the students enjoyed entertaining meals at Orlando’s Pirates Dinner Adventure and Planet Hollywood.
The AHS Music Department also enjoyed a day on the beach and in the ocean while at Cocoa Beach, which included a chicken and rib barbeque and a visit to the iconic Ron John’s Surf Shop.
Their time in Florida wasn’t all fun and games. The AHS Choir under the direction of Kimberly Wolbert took part in a recording clinic with the staff of Disney’s Imagination Campus, where their performance was added to an actual Disney cartoon.
The AHS Orchestra under the direction of Stephanie Hanson performed concert selections at Disney Springs Waterside Stage for the general public with a beautiful lake view as their backdrop.
The AHS Marching Band & Sweet 16 performed at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Marty Kral and Cameron Dedrick directed the band and Melissa Merkel directed the Sweet 16. The Band and Sweet 16 performed Ashland High School’s Pep Song and Ohio’s favorite; Hang on Sloopy as they marched down Magic Kingdom’s main street for the gathered crowd.
“It was easy for our students to identify Arrows and Buckeyes by the enthusiasm for the parade performance!” the music department stated.
The AHS Music Department would like to thank the AHS administration, parents, band boosters, choir boosters and orchestra boosters for their commitment and support of the fine arts in Ashland.
