ASHLAND — Ashland’s third annual clean-up event is set for Saturday, April 30.

“Make Ashland Sparkle” focuses on picking up litter, painting fire hydrants and trash cans, and re-laying mulch beds downtown and in parks, according to a press release issued by the Rotary Club of Ashland.

Other projects include staining pavilions and observation towers at Byers Woods and Audubon Wetlands Preserve.

Last year, the event drew around 150 volunteers, with families and individuals coming together to give back to their community.

This year, the Rotary Club is expecting 130 participants, and they are hopeful that the number will increase by Saturday, said Ted Daniels, a Rotary Club member and the event’s organizer.

This year, check-in will start at 8:30 a.m. at Corner Park. The kickoff begins at 9 a.m. Volunteers will be provided lunch from 11:30 a.m. until noon, and cleaning supplies will be made available.

“It shows community pride when the streets are neat and there’s not a whole lot of trash around … So it’s just to, you know, make Ashland sparkle,” Daniels said.

Ashland Mayor Matt Miller is excited for the event, too.

“It is truly marvelous to see folks of all ages, from all across our great city, come together with a single mission in mind — tidying up our city and making it sparkle,” he said. “Our city crew is so thankful for these wonderful volunteers who give us so much help as we get our city ready for the new spring season.”

To register or receive more information, go to the Rotary’s website. There is a rain date scheduled for May 14.

The event is sponsored by the Ashland Rotary Club, Ashland County Ministerial Association, City of Ashland, and the Norma Foundation.
