ASHLAND — Downtown Ashland will be “jammed full of cars” for most of the day on Saturday. But it won’t be because of traffic.
Ashland Main Street’s 12th annual Dream Cruise and Car Show will take place from noon to 3 p.m.
Ashland Main Street Director Sandra Tunnell said the show is likely to draw more than 600 cars, trucks and vans from all time periods to the downtown area, which will close to thru-traffic from Union Street to Claremont Avenue.
“People start showing up at 6 a.m.,” Tunnell said of those showing their vehicles.
This year’s event has around 100 sponsors, Tunnell said. All the proceeds benefit the “Shop with a Cop” event where members of local law enforcement shop at Walmart with a child around Christmas time.
“We’ve given over $120,000 over the 12 years,” she said, adding people flock to the downtown streets from all over the state.
There is no pre-registration for the event, she said, and anyone can be involved.
There will be T-shirts, a 50/50 raffle, a food truck located on Second Street, a DJ will set up at Foundation Plaza and, of course, cars.
Tunnell said the fire department has a 1928 Sebring firetruck that it shows.
“It’s something like the second-oldest firetruck in the state,” she said.
There’s also a race car that plans to show up and a large contingent of vehicles from the Cleveland Police Museum, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, hobbyists showing show cars and everything in between.
Ashland Main Street and other organizations will be handing out awards to cars throughout the day, with a cruise from Main to Broad streets wrapping up the day at around 3 p.m.
