We first encountered Cletus Paul Reese in this small country church, the Mt. Nebo Church, reciting a poem as part of a church program in July of 1924 when Cletus was 6 years old. Over the next 30 years, Cletus went from quiet child to confessed murderer.

The Reese family plot holds a number of family graves. Cletus Reese is buried at the stone second from the right. His sister Ethel is buried to his right, at the stone marked with yellow flowers.

This vintage postcard image shows the enormous Lima State Hospital for the criminally insane. It had previously housed another infamous killer from this region, Ceely Rose. The facility sits empty and crumbling today.
