ASHLAND — Ashland City Schools will be led by one of its own beginning Jan. 1, 2023.

Ashland High School graduate Steve Paramore, Class of 1999, and the City Schools Business Manager, was selected to be the district’s interim superintendent during a school board meeting last week.

“I look forward to embracing the huge responsibility this job holds and I feel that I will give every ounce of my being in this role to ensure the safety, achievement, and care of all of our staff and students,” Paramore said.

“This district has done so much for me and my family, and they deserve the best version of Steve Paramore that I can give.”

Curriculum Director Linda McKibben and Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Tammy Stevens were also considered for the role.

Paramore will replace outgoing superintendent Doug Marrah, who has been superintendent since 2011. Marrah plans to retire from the district and accept a new job at Tri-County Computer Services Associates (TCCSA).

Paramore has only positive sentiments about his predecessor.

“He, without a shadow of a doubt, has and will always care deeply for the students and staff of Ashland City Schools and this has never wavered,” Paramore said. “I am lucky to have worked for him, he has been an unbelievable example to all of us, and his legacy will live on in everything he has affected in this district.”

Paramore was a spectacular high school golfer for the Arrows, and is in the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame.

He won the 1997 individual Ohio High School State Golf Championship at the Ohio State University Scarlet Golf Course, with a two-day total of 147. Ashland was state runners-up that year by six shots to Walsh Jesuit. In 1998, Paramore was a team captain and along with teammates Chris Yoder and Bobby Castor led the Arrows to the 1998 state team championship.

Professionally, Paramore has been with Ashland City Schools since 2004 and has worn a number of hats.

He started as a coach for boys and girls golf before accepting a role as Ashland Middle School’s Assistant Principal in 2014. From there, he made his way to his current role of business manger/assistant superintendent.

When Paramore becomes interim superintendent on Jan. 1, 2023, he and other district staff will work together in an “outside-the-box transition” to fulfill the duties of the business manager position he will leave vacant, he said.

As for his plans as interim superintendent, he hopes to continue the “positive trajectory” the district has been on, he said.

“We will care for and educate every child as if they are our own, this is truly what energizes us as educators,” Paramore said. “I appreciate everyone that has made this district their passion, their place of employment, and we will reach new heights of success together.”
