ASHLAND — It could be a busy Week 11 in Ashland County.
All five of the schools in the Ashland Source coverage area will likely get the call Sunday afternoon when the Ohio High School Athletic Association hands out its playoff invitations.
Crestview, Mapleton, Loudonville and Hillsdale already have punched their tickets to the postseason, according to computer points guru Joe Eitel. Ashland is likely already in according to Drew Pasteur’s Fantastic 50 and will join its Ashland County brethren with a win in Friday’s regular season finale.
The state’s 707 football-playing schools are divided into seven divisions based on enrollment. Each enrollment division is divided into four geographic regions and the top 16 teams in each region qualify for the playoffs.
In Region 6 of Division II, Ashland is 15th. The Arrows will lock up a playoff bid with a win over Lexington on Friday.
In Division VI, Region 22, Crestview (9-0) is second after last week’s win over Norwalk St. Paul and is in line to host two playoff games. The top eight teams in each region host a first-round game and the top four host a regional quarterfinal with an opening-round win.
Also in Region 22, Mapleton (6-3) is 14th. The Mounties have clinched a playoff berth and could potentially sneak into the top eight with a win Friday at Crestview.
In Region 23 of Division VI, Loudonville (5-4) is in ninth. The Redbirds would likely host a first-round game with a win Friday over Northmor.
Hillsdale (5-4) is fifth in Region 25 of Division VII. The Falcons can lock up a first-round home game with a win Friday at Rittman.
