ASHLAND — Heartland Construction is considering building 8 to 10 “high-end young professional apartments” and an additional building or two on the old school property, Heartland Construction President Shane Allyn said.
They decided to build the apartments because of Ashland’s slim supply of units, Allyn said.
“I know people that have looked for apartments in the area, we’ve done our research and it seems that apartments are difficult to find,” he said.
The units will be a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments with a “nice retro look,” Allyn added.
Allyn stressed the project is still in the design phase and it could change or not happen at all if it ends up being too expensive or the apartments don’t seem viable.
“That property has sat for a long time. There’s just a lot that goes into (it),” he said.
Heartland discovered the property when it was being advertised for sale, and Allyn decided to buy it after his first visit, he said.
