ASHLAND — The Ashland County Fair Board is hosting an election for 10 open positions on Thursday.
The election will happen from 5 to 9 p.m. at the fairgrounds’ office along Claremont Avenue. Only members of the Ashland County Agricultural Society are allowed to vote, said Cathy Rice, the fair’s secretary.
There are 30 board members, one from each township within Ashland County and two at-large members.
Board members serve a three-year term. Voters are asked to vote for one representative in each township. There are two positions with more than one candidate.
Candidates are listed below.
• Ashland City: Barbara Hendrix, Don McCracken
• Jackson Township: Colton Alleman
• Lake Township: Ryan Twining
• Montgomery Township: Martin Wesner
• Orange Township: Terry McConnell
• Perry Township: Jacob Carpenter
• Sullivan Township: Susan Denbow
• Vermillion Township: Walter Graven
• At-large: Dave Snyder
• At-large: Mike Deaton, Michelle Maynard, Baylin Thompson
Rice said board members meet every second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the fairgrounds’ main office conference room. The board plans and organizes the annual fair which takes place in September, organizes grandstand events and decides on capital improvements to the fairgrounds.
Being a member of the Ashland County Agricultural Society costs $25 and is valid for a year, Rice said.
Memberships for 2023 go on sale Dec. 1. Members are entitled to a vote in board elections, access to showing items during the fair and seven free entries to the weeklong fair.
