ASHLAND — Sarver Paving Company recently received an award from an asphalt trade association for a resurfacing project it completed in 2021.

Last year, Ashland County contracted with Sarver to resurface County Road 30A, which runs between Mifflin and Jeromesville. After the work was done, Sarver was satisfied with its work and decided to enter it for an award from Flexible Pavements of Ohio, an asphalt trade association.

The company won a Quality Award for Asphalt Paving “for achieving the highest quality in asphalt paving as exhibited by superior workmanship and riding quality,” according to Sarver’s plaque.

“Naturally, everybody was excited about that,” Wurster said.

Every year, Flexible Pavements of Ohio distributes awards for projects that “demonstrate exceptional quality in asphalt pavement construction,” according to its website. Highways, local roads, parking lots, and airport runways are all eligible.

The Ashland County Engineer’s office also received a plaque from Flexible Pavements for its role in creating the County Road 30A project and contracting with Sarver.

“I had no idea whether they’d win or not and they did. So that’s kudos to them,” Ashland County Engineer Ed Meixner said.

The county engineer’s Flexible Pavements award is the first that the office has received, Meixner said.
