CONGRESS TOWNSHIP – A Burbank man was killed on Friday after a two-vehicle crash in Wayne County, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Steven Catteau, 49, was severely injured as a result of injuries sustained from the crash. Metro-Lifeflight was called to the scene for transport to a medical facility. During the transport, Catteau had passed away as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.
The incident took place at approximately 5:03 p.m. on Pleasant Home (Road CR 48) near the intersection of Wohlgamuth Road (CR 128) in Congress Township of Wayne County.
The on-scene investigation revealed that a silver 2011 Chevrolet Impala sedan was traveling eastbound on Pleasant Home Road, while a green 1999 Ford F-350 was traveling westbound. The Chevrolet Impala had traveled left of center and struck the Ford F-350 pickup head on in the westbound lane of travel.
Catteau was driving the silver Chevrolet. The investigation revealed that the front airbags had deployed in the Chevrolet, but there was no seatbelt usage at the time of impact.
The driver of the green Ford, Robin Apidone, 39, of West Salem, did have a seatbelt on at the time of crash and did not sustain any injuries, the Patrol stated.
Agencies assisting at the crash scene were: Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Town & Country Fire/EMS, New Pittsburg Fire/EMS, and Metro Lifeflight. Auer Towing and TnT Towing removed the vehicles from the scene.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor at the time of reporting and the crash remains under investigation.
