COLUMBUS – Ashland receiver Jon Metzger’s monster senior season was expected, but it didn’t make it any less sweet.
The Arrows standout can now savor first-team All-Ohio recognition after a brilliant senior campaign.
The 5-foot-10 170-pounder hauled in 67 catches for 1,312 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is now the standard-bearer for single-season receiving yards at the school. As a junior, Metzger caught 56 passes for 801 yards and five touchdowns.
He ended his career with 160 catches and 2,539 yards, both career records at Ashland.
Metzger had local company on the squad, too. Teammate Ethan Truax, a 5-10, 195-pound senior, collected honorable-mention honors as a linebacker. Truax registered a whopping 130 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions (including a 97-yard pick-six), a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
The Division II All-Ohio football team was announced Wednesday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
On Monday, the Division VI and VII All-Ohio teams were announced, followed by the Division IV and V teams on Tuesday. The Division I All-Ohio team will be announced on Thursday.
