LUCAS — You know it’s Christmas season in the valley when nearly each room in the historic home at Malabar Farm State Park is decorated with a Christmas tree for the Candlelight Holiday tours.
The holiday tours began Dec. 2 and will end Sunday. The tour costs $6 for adults and $4 for children.
Lori Morey, Malabar Farm tour guide, said the park averages about 100 guests each night during the holiday tours.
Morey estimated between 25 and 50 volunteers are involved in the tours through decorating the home and answering guests’ questions.
“There’s usually one group that decorates the house over two days or so, and then the volunteer tour guides,” she said.
The tours are self-guided with volunteers available to share house history and stories. Live music accompanies the house tours as visitors enter. The Fun Center Chordsmen are scheduled to sing holiday music Dec. 10 and Faith Ferkel is scheduled for Dec. 11.
Visitors can buy tickets at the farm’s visitors center from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
A selection of cookies, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and apple cider are available in the house’s garage at the end of the tour.
Malabar Farm is the home built by famed Mansfield author Louis Bromfield. It’s best known as the site where Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were married.
