ASHLAND — Old Saint Nick graced Ashland’s yuletide-themed Corner Park on Friday night, the first evening of this year’s four-night event.
Santa is, however, only one of the features of the Ashland Christmas Village.
Children had the chance to pet two live reindeer, drink hot cocoa, eat cookies and get their faces painted — all under the twinkling lights on Friday.
“No, mom — it’s free,” one parent reminded the grandparent as they approached Santa’s House, a one-room, lighted shed adorned in red and white stripes.
“Oh my, how fun,” the grandparent replied.
Each one of the dozens of families lined up to see Santa received a complimentary photo with the white-bearded man. They were then guided to another Christmas-themed structure, filled with green-donned elves, where they were served cookies and hot cocoa.
Another trailer was filled with more elves, equipped with face painting materials and tattoos.
Everything was offered for free, “made possible by donations and sponsorships from individuals and businesses throughout the community,” read a Facebook post for the events.
Those who missed Friday’s event still have three more chances.
Santa, his elves and reindeer will be back on Dec. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Dec. 18 from 3 to 6 p.m. The last event before Christmas is scheduled for Dec. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.
