WOOSTER — The Gererals dominated the pool Saturday afternoon.

Wooster swept the boys and girls teams titles in overwhelming fashion at the Ohio Cardinal Conference swimming and diving meet at Ellen Shapiro Natatorium.

The girls won their fifth consecutive OCC championship and 16th in the conference’s 20-year history with 478.5 points. Ashland was a distant second with 379 points, followed by Lexington (367.5), Mount Vernon (256), Mansfield Senior (165), Madison (154) and New Philadelphia (123).

Not to be outdone, the boys piled up a whopping 553 points to claim their 17th OCC title. Lexington was second with 430 points, followed by Ashland (289), Mansfield Senior (225), Madison (204), Mount Vernon (146) and New Philadelphia (55).

On the boys side, Wooster placed first in every individual event except the 100-yard breaststroke. Lexington’s Ivan Prykhodko won the event in 59.43 seconds.

The Generals also swept all three boys relay events.

On the girls side, Wooster won two of the three relays and four of nine individual events.

The Ashland girls had a solid showing as Nykole Doerner won the 50 freestyle in 25.30 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 1:01.32. Sara Finks won the 500 free in 5:39.24 and Mackie Parsons won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.09. Doerner, Finks and Parsons teamed with Jenna Hartson to win the 200 medley relay in 1:55.36.

Mount Vernon’s Rylee Jarosz won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.67.

Ashland’s Krissy Geren was selected the OCC girls Coach of the Year, while Wooster’s Gretchen Chelf was the girls Swimmer of the Year.

Wooster’s Chris Matthew was selected the OCC boys Coach of the Year. Wooster’s Andrei Dordea, Michael Buchholz and Gabe Bosler-Kilmer shared the boys Swimmer of the Year award.
