ASHLAND — An Ashland man, whose body was found in a vacant home Friday afternoon, was shot with a weapon, according to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.

Kurtis Harstine, 41, of Ashland, was discovered by deputies who acted on a call at 3:38 p.m.

“The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a female requesting we search a vacant house for a missing male. The male had been reported missing to the Ashland Police Department (APD) that morning,” said chief deputy David Blake in a Saturday afternoon press release.

“Deputies were able to enter the house and conduct a search. A deceased male was located on the second floor of the master bedroom. At this time, detectives from the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Ashland Police Department were called to the scene. It had been determined that the male had been deceased for some time.”

The Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) and the Ashland County Coroner were called and arrived on scene. After an investigation, it was determined Harstine had been shot with a weapon.

His body was taken to Lucas County to have an autopsy completed. Authorities did not say if foul play was suspected.

“Sheriff’s Detectives and APD Detectives worked together on this case throughout the evening,” Blake said. “This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be released upon completion of the investigation.”
