ASHLAND — Report for America Corps Member Nathan Hart stopped by the WRDL studios on Thursday, Feb. 2 for Ashland Source‘s weekly segment on The Early Bird’s Word.

The first story he discussed was about 21 more Amish appearing in court and refusing to pay their fines in Ashland. This group of Amish object to Ohio’s new buggy law on religious grounds and have refused to pay their fines, opening them up to the possibility of jail time.

The second story he covered was about the Ashland County Spelling Bee, which took place on Tuesday, Jan. 31. The region’s best middle-school spellers competed there, spelling words like “garlic” and “grotesqueness.”

He then answered some questions about his reporting process for stories like the spelling bee.
