ASHLAND — ModWash, a new car wash off of U.S. 250, quietly opened for business on Feb. 25 as part of its week-long “soft opening” where costumers can get car washes for free while employees are still being trained, ModWash CEO Karen Hutton said.

ModWash, a national car wash chain with stores across the eastern U.S., decided to open a store at 1954 E. Main Street in Ashland after researching the local market and its competitors, Hutton said.

“So (it’s) just a great community we felt like we could come into be a great partner with,” she said.

According to Hutton, while customers are coming through for free washes, the business’s 8-10 employees will be learning to invite customers to the business and “look them in the eye.”

“The most important thing we have right then at that moment is our guest,” Hutton said.

After the soft opening ends this weekend, ModWash will start charging for car washes and offering special membership deals.

The new store also offers a variety of “very popular” ModWash air fresheners exclusive to the company.

“They get to smell our fragrance until they come back,” Hutton said.

Three of the store’s employees will be full-time, and hourly workers will have the opportunity to work 40 hour weeks, she added.
