ASHLAND — Steve Paramore, currently the interim superintendent of Ashland City Schools, will be ditching the “interim” part of his job title.
Paramore has been selected to serve as the district’s next superintendent, Mayor Matt Miller announced in a Facebook post Thursday.
“A life-long Ashland Arrow, Mr. Steve Paramore will do an outstanding job as the new leader of our Ashland City Schools!” Miller said.
Paramore has been leading the district in the interim superintendent role since Jan. 1 after former superintendent Doug Marrah retired.
Even further back, Paramore was a spectacular high school golfer for the Arrows, and is in the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame.
He won the 1997 individual Ohio High School State Golf Championship at the Ohio State University Scarlet Golf Course, with a two-day total of 147. Ashland was state runners-up that year by six shots to Walsh Jesuit.
In 1998, Paramore was a team captain and along with teammates Chris Yoder and Bobby Castor led the Arrows to the 1998 state team championship.
Professionally, Paramore has been with Ashland City Schools since 2004 and has worn a number of hats.
He started as a coach for boys and girls golf before accepting a role as Ashland Middle School’s assistant principal in 2014. From there, he made his way up to his current role.
The search for Ashland’s new superintendent started back in October when the district board of education approved a contract with the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC), paying them a maximum of $5,000 to find a new superintendent.
“I am honored, I am blessed, I’m very excited for the decision the board members have made and placed a significant amount of trust in me and my leadership abilities,” Paramore said.
The board of education will vote to officially hire Paramore for the role on March 13, and his first day as superintendent and not interim superintendent will likely be April 1, he added.
