SHELBY — A 28-year-old Shelby motorcyclist died Wednesday evening during a two-vehicle collision.

Troopers from the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said they responded to the intersection of East Main Street and Roberts Drive in the City of Shelby  at 6:11 p.m.

The patrol said a preliminary investigation indicated Frederick T. Plew, 28, of Shelby was traveling south on East Main Street, operating a 2009 Honda Shadow motorcycle.

Troopers said Carol Beer, 84, also of Shelby, was traveling north on Roberts Drive, driving a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.

Troopers said Beer entered the intersection onto East Main Street and her vehicle collided with Plew and his motorcycle.

Plew was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the patrol, who said Beer did not sustain any injuries from the crash.

Plew was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, troopers said.

The intersection of East Main Street and Roberts Drive was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation of the crash.

The Shelby Police Department and Shelby Fire and EMS assisted on the scene, according to the patrol.

The crash remains under investigation.
