ASHLAND — The Ashland County commissioners are considering how to divvy up $150,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding.
The money is part of the federal CDBG program and can be used within the next two years. In the past, commissioners have allocated such funds to villages such as Nankin, Polk, Hayesville and Savannah for sidewalk repair, but other projects are also considered.
The grant application process ended earlier this week, said project administrator and clerk of the Ashland County commissioners Nikki Hiller.
The county received six CDBG grant applications, according to county records.
One of the applications came from Hayesville, for a $36,420 project that would add sidewalk on South Mechanic Street.
The Village of Perrysville prepared three applications for CDBG funding.
One of Perrysville’s projects included purchasing LED lights for a baseball field, a project estimated to cost $100,780.
Another Perrysville application was for $88,740, an amount the village said would pay for the refurbishing of two water wells. The final application from Perrysville asked for $96,474 to update its community center, which is where the village hosts council meetings and other functions for the general public.
The Village of Savannah also asked for money to repair around 3,800 feet of various sidewalks.
A resident from Bailey Lakes, a village in Clear Creek Township, asked for money to build a public park — the first and only park for children in the village.
Hiller said final decisions will be announced by late April or early May.
