ASHLAND — Volunteers of all ages are gearing up for the fourth annual “Make Ashland Sparkle” community-wide clean-up and beautification effort on Saturday, April 29.
The event, organized by the Rotary Club of Ashland, the City of Ashland, and the Ashland County Ministerial Association, aims to spruce up local streets and parks for spring.
Volunteers will focus on picking up litter along major streets, painting fire hydrants, and sprucing up mulch beds in downtown areas and city parks. Local Boy Scouts will be actively involved in the clean-up efforts at Town Creek and several county parks.
“One of the exciting aspects of Make Ashland Sparkle is creating memories. I was at a local Scout meeting promoting the event and one of the Scouts told me he had all three T-shirts having participated in all of our Make Ashland Sparkle events.
“Teaching young people and families that giving back is one of the goals of this project,” said Lee Peters, a past president of the Rotary Club and lead organizer of the event.
In past years, Make Ashland Sparkle drew nearly 150 volunteers, and this year’s goal is to reach 200 volunteers, according to Peters.
Check-in for volunteers will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Corner Park downtown, with the kickoff scheduled for 9 a.m. Volunteers will then head to their designated assignments. Lunch will be provided at Corner Park from 11:30 a.m. until noon, and paint and cleaning supplies will be provided.
