ASHLAND — Two new police officers brings Ashland Division of Police’s force up to 31, according to a press release issued Friday.
Ashland Mayor Matt Miller administered the oath of office to Chelsie Betancourt, 26, and Soren Osicka, 23, on April 17.
Both Betancourt and Osicka live in Ashland and were recruited recently from the police academy at North Central State College.
Betancourt previously worked as a corrections officer for the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
This will be Osicka’s first position in public safety.
The pair will shadow trainers for at least four months to learn organizational procedures while becoming more familiar with operations.
Miller encouraged the new officers to be diligent and humble and “treat every resident fairly and respectfully.”
The Ashland Police Division is currently authorized to employ 32 full-time police officers. These two appointments bring the division to 31.

I appreciate our local Police officers, who are diligent in knowing and carrying out their duties.
